Gültekin Çizgen's
work covers a large span of artistic media-photography,
multimedia productions and computer-generated
art. He has shown extensively in Turkey and around
the world. He has also published 24 books, which
include photographs, computer art and articles
on art and culture.
Since 1990 Çizgen has applied his talents to computer
generated art such as "The Secret History of the
Universe", "Wondrous Creatures", "Ottomans", "Mevlana
and the Mevlevis". The central focus in this body
of work testifies to Çizgen's intense interest
in his cultural history and tradition. We can
best understand him in his own words:
"I come from the East and I love the traditional
arts of Turkey like calligraphy, marbelizing,
ceramics and especially miniatures. I try to give
a contemporary expression to them. Before the
age of information brought entertainment to the
home acrobatic games were an essential form of
entertainment. They have a significant place in
the Turkish miniature tradition. In my work I
try to bring this traditional visual experience
to the modern world."
